CALNOC Medication Administration Accuracy Assessment

In response to the strategic imperative for hospitals to improve patient care and to reduce medication-related errors, CALNOC developed the CALNOC Medication Administration Accuracy Assessment Program.

This comprehensive program consists of the following components:

  • Medication Administration Initial Assessment

During this phase of the program an initial assessment is conducted to establish a baseline of the environment and practice behaviors that impact medication administration safety in your setting. These data are used to identify practice strengths and areas for improvement. The assessment is conducted by systematic observation and recording of 100 doses of medication administered for each participating unit.

  • Ongoing Observation and Data Reporting Services

If as your move forward with your medication administration improvement efforts, resources at your hospital are limited and you would like assistance to do the observation and recording, CALNOC can deliver the services and trained observers to conduct the observational study and prepare reports for you.

  • Train the Trainer Education

For hospitals that prefer to do the ongoing studies and reports themselves, CALNOC offers education for train the trainer in order to ensure that proper protocols are established to successfully implement your in-house medication administration accuracy program.
